MT WELLINGTON

Nestled at the end of Penrose Road is a block of local shops, which offers a nostalgic Kiwiana feel and diverse range of small business owners. The Juicy Oyster fish and chip shop has had the same owners for 50 years and the interior is unchanged since the 1970s. I was instantly drawn to the retro aesthetic of the shop and enjoyed the happy memories it brought back of my childhood. This project quickly expanded to the other local shops and became an exciting opportunity to capture that feeling and meet new people.

I was inspired by Auckland photographers Lee Howell and Vinesh Kumaran, who also documented their own neighbourhoods. This project shows off my favourite part of the community; the real, friendly people that make it what it is.
